Sam Brenton. The Honky's Guide to Wet Dreams.

In ornery rhythmics swept across intimate spaces by beautiful angels and feisty defeated minutemen, Brenton recaptures the jazzy rhymes of an early New York in the frictive language of late material England. A new labour of intimacy in rhyme.

Bright O at noon the O high and digital
green pound propulsive in the bedroom's stage set
for a life to play. I'll bet
there's water salting in the crystal
there where the hour's high sanctuary
is ripped up wine cup and sympathy
a crystal cup to wet.
Darklight voices feign digital

urges that are empty, are seminal.

So now she's being fucked by her master
like the girls in his books of pictures.
Ointment applied, the tinctures
of longing glow red upon his head. Ray curls
backwards-up, dreams of doubled backs,
strains to have himself but hacks
a cough and his chokebox ruptures.
He spits (he loves it) and, bleeding, whirls

to growl commands at the mirror; his slab unfurls.
